National Glaucoma Awareness Month

National Glaucoma Awareness Month is the perfect opportunity to gain information in order to help your loved ones understand what glaucoma is, as well as help to ensure they see their ophthalmologist regularly.

Most glaucoma can be managed with medication, some of which are as simple as taking eye drops. Surgery can also help to create drainage by removing a piece of tissue from the eye or installing a mini-shunt (about the size of a grain of rice.)

Glaucoma Awareness- January

The 2023 month-long observance provides the perfect platform to increase awareness of glaucoma, promote the need for a cure, and spur advocacy on behalf of those suffering with the emotional, financial and physical burden of glaucoma. Regarded as a leading cause of irreversible blindness, Glaucoma refers to a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve that is often relate to high pressure in the eyes. Many forms of glaucoma have no warning signs initially. But if left untreated, it can significantly affect or take away vision over time. The effect is so gradual that a person may not notice a visible change in vision until the condition reaches its later stages. Undergoing regular eye exams at Clarity Eye Center can help prevent or slow the occurrence of vision loss.
