High eye pressure is also known as ocular hypertension, it refers to any situation in which the pressure inside the eye is higher than usual. This does not necessarily mean it is a disease, but it would be important to be on the look out for the onset of glaucoma which is referred to as a “glaucoma suspect”. The causes of high eye pressure is an imbalance in the production and drainage of the aqueous humor which is the fluid in the eye, post-menopausal women could be at a higher risk of ocular hypertension and people older than 40 are at risk of developing ocular hypertension and primary open-angle glaucoma.
